As businesses resume across Los Angeles, generally 50% of the 6,500 area bars that needed to close a year ago in the City of LA may never return.
A large number of bar proprietors and representatives in LA are presently sorting out what their best courses of action are. A Yelp study showed that 6,500 bars shut in the city when the pandemic struck. However, since bars will actually want to open again in the orange tier, many don’t have the financial way to remain afloat.
“Every single penny we have has been placed into this business,” said Terri Cortines, co-proprietor of The North End Bar in Hollywood.
She constructed a porch in her parking area over the course of the end of the week so she could return, yet she is concerned. Under the orange tier, bars can open yet just at 25% capacity outside. Tables should be eight feet separated.
“The discussions have consistently rotated around restaurants,” she said. “You don’t hear talk about bars that don’t serve food.”
The proprietors said their property manager has been conceding rent yet that implies they will in any case have a time of back-lease due sooner or later.
Bars that don’t serve food, have not been permitted to return for the greater part of the pandemic. Recently, under the state’s red tier, bottling works and wineries that don’t serve food were permitted to resume for outdoor service with certain safety changes.
LA County Health Director Dr. Barbara Ferrer said there will be limitations when bars resume.
“These are where individuals can not be wearing their veils and not staying away for extensive stretches of time in case you’re not actually cautious about what’s happening in bars,” she said. “Along these lines, we’ll need to seriously investigate that.”
