A blast of new Covid cases filled by the quickly spreading Omicron variant has set off a sharp increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations across California, provoking reestablished admonitions and calls for alert from public health officials.

Over the weeklong period finishing Sunday, California revealed a normal of 11,914 new Covid cases each day — a 73% leap from about fourteen days prior, as per data assembled by the news.
