For those interested in a sales career in mortgage and real estate, individuals coming from other sales fields think they are ready, or many times newbies believe it will be an easy road to wealth. Many underestimate real estate, and the mortgage involves cultivating relationships and completing a transaction. As in these industries, a standard sale can take anywhere from a few months, or if helping individuals get ready, up to a few years, oppose other sales fields where the transactions are instant. In Sam’s opinion, not being prepared for the long haul through endurance and determination is possibly the largest reason for failure.
Another point Sam wanted to make, he says he cannot stress enough is the importance of where an individual starts, “Aside from grit and determination, where one starts in the industry will have the biggest impact on how fast they learn and how fast they arrive where they want to be.” Sam went on to explain, outside of the intangibles of someone’s ambition, clear direction is paramount. From his experiences he didn’t do much research early in his career as to where he started which ended up being a timely cost in the learning curve.
Once an individual arrives at the right mindset and right place to start, Sam claims from that point on it is as simple as doing the right thing to be on the path to success.. For those who believe in Karma, or that our existence is part of a larger whole, as Sam does, he believes, many times good fortune can be linked to helping people in abundance. Being more concerned with helping others and being of service rather than getting paid is another key aspect that falls in line with the correct mindset to have. Outside of the benefits of referrals for doing good business, Sam claims, having good intentions, working in a forthright manner and ensuring your client is getting the best service all serve a greater good, that comes back to an individual in multiples.
Sam believes whatever you put out into the universe comes back to you. Moreover, if one makes it common practice to go above and beyond what is expected of him or her, then one can only expect good things to come. As mortgage and real estate is known for its volatile workforce with one of the highest turnover rates of any field, Sam claims the best advice he can give anyone is stay steadfast and keep doing good things and eventually things will work out. Conversely, more commonly, a short career in real estate and mortgage many times can be attributed to a short term mindset, both in how clients are treated through service provided and in how relationships are built.
