Los Angeles County will stop all criminal trials for a very long time starting Wednesday, as Covid contaminations keep on flooding across the locale due to the irresistibleness of the Omicron variant.
Directing Judge Eric Taylor said trials will be stopped until Jan. 19, a postpone that will permit court authorities to “balance access to justice with local public safety needs.”
“I will keep on counseling intimately with L.A. County Department of Public Health … authorities on nearby conditions and any progressions to public health orders and direction throughout this colder time of year flood,” Taylor said in an assertion. “For the second successive winter, holiday gatherings have fueled widespread community transmission.”
The news came a day after a board of judges requested the suspension of all government trials in Los Angeles, Riverside and Orange counties. There was no schedule given for a return to normal operations in the federal court system.
