Los Angeles City Councilman Mike Bonin reported Wednesday he won’t look for re-appointment to a third term, only multi week after a review bid focusing on him missed the mark concerning the necessary signatures.
Bonin, who had recently reported plans to run in the June municipal election, said in a progression of tweets that he has battled with sorrow for a really long time and concluded that the time had come to “focus on health and wellness.”
“To the individuals who are disillusioned by my choice, I am heartbroken,” he said. “It is undeniably challenging to leave a third term and the work we have been doing together, however I really want to pay attention to my heart. This is the best choice for myself as well as my family.”
Bonin, who represents coastal regions extending from Los Angeles International Airport north to Pacific Palisades, was first chosen in 2013, subsequent to filling in as a top helper to previous Councilman Bill Rosendahl. He had been confronting a significant re-election battle – one that would have been overwhelmed by the issues of homelessness and public security.
