The California National Guard has dispatched medical groups to three ambushed hospitals in Northern California and the Central Valley, where depleted healthcare workers are enduring one more flood of COVID-19 cases and deaths.
Groups of 16 people have been sent to help healthcare staffs at Memorial Hospital and Mercy Hospital Southwest in Bakersfield and Mercy Medical Center Redding, said Lt. Col. Jonathan Shiroma, a California National Guard representative.
Another Bakersfield hospital, Adventist Health, has mentioned help from the National Guard, and a 14-man group is relied upon to show up Saturday, said Daniel Wolcott, leader of Adventist Health Kern County.
“We actually need seriously nursing and clinical help,” he added.
