Tuesday was a historic night for the Los Angeles Police Department with the announcement of its first Asian American assistant chief.
Dominic Choi, who is Korean American, was promoted to deputy chief just about two years prior. He will currently be one of three people to hold the second-most noteworthy rank in the department — an honor and a test he said he was prepared to take on.
“For the chief to believe in me to choose me for this position, I’m respected,” he said. “I’m energized. It’s a colossal test, I believe I’m available, and I’m simply prepared to get going running and doing the best occupation I can.”
Choi has served in a number of positions with the LAPD over his over 25-year profession, including spells as an investigative and internal affairs officer.
