Senior residents are taking their own actions against Asian disdain crimes with another rap that is for the most part in Cantonese.
Together, they serenade, “Be careful, be careful with the person mo so.”
In English, that is “be careful the chicken plume duster,” a family apparatus a portion of the women recall from their adolescence.
“Utilizing the person mo so — this chicken plume duster. It had a hard base thus, when you are insidious and escaping line, the guardians would follow you with that,” clarified dancer Emily Chin.
The rap was composed by Clara Hsu, director of the Clarion Performing Arts Center where the women practice in the core of San Francisco Chinatown.
Their message is direct: “We are the position. Try not to meddle with us,” Hsu said.
Hsu is practicing with individuals from the Grant Avenue Follies, a 18-year senior resident gathering that reviews the city’s brilliant dance club time.
The dancers have visited in Las Vegas, China, and Cuba.
For the most part, the Follies perform locally for the old and gathering pledges functions, raising huge number of dollars for senior resident groups.
Yet, this time, dancer Pat Nishimoto says they’re bringing issues to light about the wrongdoings that flash dread.
“With every one of these savage assaults, I’m super cautious,” Nishimoto said. “I don’t think I’ll walk Stow Lake [in Golden Gate Park] without help from anyone else now.”
Hsu added, “Seniors are not simply elderly folks individuals in the city, you know? We are amazing and we need to show that and to show it in an engaging manner.”
Indiscretions prime supporter Cynthia Yee says they feel enabled to act.
“With this rap, I need to show individuals ‘Don’t be mean to grandmother. If not for grandmother, you wouldn’t be here,'” Yee clarified.
