Los Angeles turned into the most recent municipality Wednesday to help purported saint pay for grocery store workers.
The L.A. City Council casted a ballot 14 to 1 to require bigger grocery stores and drugstores to support the compensation of their workers by $5 an hour for the following 120 days.
Comparative orders have passed in Seattle, Oakland, San Jose and Long Beach and for unincorporated Los Angeles County, with lawmakers saying that grocery store workers are taking a chance with their wellbeing to stock the racks during the pandemic and merit remuneration.
The California Grocers Assn. has recorded claims against a few urban areas. Ron Fong, CEO of the gathering, cautioned the orders will have “extreme unintended outcomes on merchants, yet on their workers and their customers.”
